Licensing Requirements

Note: An applicant holding a regular license to practice audiology under the laws of another state, territory of the US, or the District of Columbia may practice audiology without an IL license for 90 days from the date of application or until the disposition of the license application, whichever is sooner. An applicant applying for an initial license to practice, who is a recent graduate of an approved audiology program, may practice audiology for 60 days after the date of application or until disposition of the license application, whichever is sooner, provided that he or she meets the applicable requirements.

Renewal Requirements

  1. Every license expires on October 31st of odd number years. License holders may renew during the preceding month by paying the required fee.
  2. There is a required minimum of 20 clock hours of continuing education during the 2 year license cycle. No more than 10 of these hours can be obtained from programs sponsored by hearing instrument or auditory prosthetic device manufacturers. In addition, there is a requirement of least 2 clock hours in ethics or legal requirements pertaining to audiology, 1 hour of sexual harassment training, 1 hour of implicit bias training, and 1 hour in diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias .
